WCT first venture overseas was in 1999 when it secured a build, operate and transfer (BOT) project for a highway linking Tada to Nellore on NH5 in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. This involved the widening of the existing 2-lane road into a 4-lane 110.8km highway and for a 36km stretch from Nandigama to Ibrahimpatnam on NH9.
The Group added two more BOT highway projects in 2002 ?the Panagapur-Palsit and Durgapur Expressways. The two projects are structured on a deferred payment basis with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) paying the concessionaire 30 semi-annual payments for a period of 30 months.
