WCT Plants 2,000 Mangrove Trees for #AGreenerTomorrow
05 August 2026
A team of 38 WCT volunteers took part in a hands-on effort to plant 2,000 mangrove saplings at Denai Tebuk Mendeling, Sabak Bernam, in support of the WCTGives #AGreenerTomorrow pillar. Organised by Rakan Alam Sekitar UiTM Student Chapter (“RAS UiTM SC”), the activity was held in conjunction with World Ozone Day 2026.
The programme was supported by key stakeholders, including Jabatan Alam Sekitar Selangor, Jabatan Hutan Kuala Selangor, Pejabat Daerah Sabak Bernam, Jabatan Pengairan dan Saliran Sabak Bernam, and Penghulu Bagan Nakhoda Omar. It brought together 146 volunteers, comprising WCT employees and students from Rakan Alam Sekitar UiTM Student Chapter (RAS UiTM SC) and Politeknik Sultan Idris Shah (PSIS).
A total of 2,000 mangrove saplings, comprising Rhizophora apiculata (Bakau Minyak) and Rhizophora mucronata (Bakau Kurap), were planted during the programme. This achievement exceeded WCT’s annual biodiversity target of 500 trees planted by fourfold, reflecting WCT's continued commitment to biodiversity conservation and ecosystem restoration.
Here are some key highlights from the day:
