WCT Reaffirms its Commitment to Building Sustainable and Thriving Communities, Set to Roll Out Diverse CSR Initiatives through WCT Gives

The Group Continues to Give Back to Society by Launching ‘Golden Harvest’ Community Outreach Programme and Supporting the Educational Institution

PETALING JAYA, 6 March 2024 - WCT Holdings Berhad (“WCT” or “the Group) an investment holding company with businesses in engineering and construction, property development as well as investment in and management of retail malls, hotels, and business aviation is reaffirming its commitment to its business purpose of ‘Building Sustainable and Thriving Communities’ through the rollout of diverse Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives under its sustainability and CSR proposition, WCTGives this year.

WCTGives does not only embody our Group’s purpose to contribute to society and environment, but it also underscores our steadfast dedication to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) through the launch of our CSR initiatives”.

Launched in 2022, WCTGives encompasses three pillars, namely #WeCareTogether, #EducationforAll, and #AGreenerTomorrow; each of which focuses on various programmes that aim to enrich the lives of the community, provide education support to the underprivileged, as well as to preserve the environment. WCT is allocating a percentage of its total annual revenue to fund its various CSR programmes across all business divisions. The total contribution made in FY2023 for charitable causes stands at RM2.9 million.

Since its inception, WCTGives has impacted 680 beneficiaries and invested approximately RM326,007.79 on B40 families and women, underprivileged senior citizens, as well as students. WCTGives is also a platform for the company’s employees to invest their time in community volunteering. To date, the Group has achieved 301 hours of community volunteering.

WCTGives Launched ‘Golden Harvest’ Community Outreach Programme



To continue making a significant impact to society, the Group through WCTGives, #WeCareTogether, launched ‘Golden Harvest’ Community Outreach Programme, benefiting 150 underprivileged Chinese families in the vicinity of Klang, Selangor. In partnership with social enterprise, Pasar Grub, and Non-Governmental Organisation, Grace Community Services, 300 food packs comprising fresh and nutritious vegetables and fruits as well as dried goods were distributed, spreading joy and hope in conjunction Chinese New Year celebration. This meaningful collaboration with Pasar Grub and Grace Community Services not only reduces food waste through the purchase of surplus goods from farms or distributors, but also allows WCT to participate in a circular ecosystem, supporting local businesses while contributing to the marginalised sectors of the community, including the urban poor and the elderly.

“We recognise the challenges faced by the needy communities in acquiring fresh groceries for festive meals preparation. Therefore, our goal is to uplift and enhance the festive spirit of the community within our operations,” said Dato’ Lee while expressing his gratitude to the programme partners for an opportunity to collaborate as well as all employee volunteers who supported the initiative.

Through WCT's partnership with Pasar Grub to source fresh surplus items to 150 families, the Group has successfully aided an equivalent of 600 individuals. This initiative has also resulted in the rescue of 2,480 kg of produce and 4.712 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent reduction; on waste alone from production to consumption.



WCTGives Provides Continuous Support to Educational Institution

To top it off, WCT through WCTGives, under the #EducationforAll pillar, is also actively providing educational support to the local community. WCT’s Property Development Division has recently donated approximately RM210,000.00 to Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Indah, Taman OUG, Kuala Lumpur for the supply and installation of new playground equipment at two designated locations within the school compound. The initiative benefitted a total of 272 students from kindergarten and primary level.

“We are proud to be continuing our commitment in supporting educational institutions within our local development. By providing essential resources such as playground equipment to the school, our hope is to create a conducive and well-rounded learning environment that enhances educational experience for the students,” commented Mr Chong Wah Hing, Chief Operating Officer – Property Development at the launch of the ‘Taman Tunas Bestari’ playground.

Looking ahead, WCT, through WCTGives, is gearing up to unveil a range of CSR initiatives aligned with major festive celebrations, with a focus on assisting different needy communities. Additionally, the company will be implementing environmental campaigns to underscore its commitment to nature preservation and conservation.
