WCT Commemorates World Environment Day 2025 with Mangrove Planting Initiative
17 May 2025
In celebration of World Environment Day 2025 and in alignment with WCTGives #AGreenerTomorrow pillar, WCT proudly participated as a strategic partner in the 1000 Mangroves Tree Planting Event (Penanaman 1000 Pokok Bakau, “1Ras1Pokok”) event held on 17 May 2025 at Denai Tebuk Mendeling, Sabak Bernam.

The event, organised by the University of Mara UiTM Student Chapter Environment Friends Association (Rakan Alam Sekitar UiTM Student Chapter, “RAS UiTM SC”), was made possible through the collaborative efforts of key government and local agencies, including the Selangor Department of Environment, Kuala Selangor Forest Ranger Department, Sabak Bernam District Office, Sabak Bernam Department of Irrigation and Drainage, the Village Chief of Bagan Nakhoda Omar, and Pertubuhan Sahabat Hutan Bakau Kampung Dato Hormat.

Over 60 dedicated volunteers from WCT Holdings Berhad and RAS UiTM SC joined forces for a purposeful day of environmental stewardship.

The event kicked off with a light breakfast and energising warm-up session, followed by an official opening ceremony and briefing. Participants then made their way to the mangrove planting site, where they first conducted a clean-up of the surrounding area before proceeding to the main activity - planting mangrove saplings together to restore and enrich the natural environment.

Together, 1,000 mangrove saplings were successfully planted—specifically Rhizophora apiculata (“Bakau Minyak”) and Rhizophora mucronata (“Bakau Kurap”). WCT proudly contributed 664 trees, surpassing its annual biodiversity target of 500 trees.

In addition to the mangrove planting activity, RAS UiTM SC organised several other impactful environmental programmes, including Kutip Sampah Sambil Riadah (“KUDAH”), an environmental clean-up activity; Trash to Treasure, an e-waste collection and recycling initiative; and Waste2Art Programme, creative upcycling of waste into art.

These initiatives not only enhanced the local environment but also fostered greater awareness and engagement among participants on the importance of sustainability and biodiversity conservation.

WCT extends its heartfelt appreciation to all volunteers, partners, and organising bodies for their unwavering contributions toward paving the way to a healthier, greener, and more sustainable future.

Let’s continue to work hand in hand for #AGreenerTomorrow.
