Biodiversity Policy

Introduction

WCT Holdings Berhad (“WCT” or “the Group”) recognises that its business divisions’ activities can interact with biodiversity in multiple ways throughout the life cycle of its products and services. These interactions include the use of natural resources in materials, land development and operational activities, greenhouse gas emissions, discharges into the environment, and the broader impact of its supply chain. WCT acknowledges that, if not carefully managed, these interactions can contribute to biodiversity loss and impact vital ecosystem services that support food security, climate resilience, and livelihoods. At the same time, WCT sees an opportunity to operate responsibly by integrating biophilic principles into its products and services, and fostering a business approach that respects, enhances and coexists with nature.

The Group recognises the importance of understanding and reducing its impact on nature, acknowledging the vital role biodiversity plays in sustaining not only its business but also the broader economy, environment, and society.

This Policy outlines WCT’s commitments to managing its impacts, risks and opportunities related to biodiversity. It applies to all operations across its business divisions, subsidiaries, and business partners.

WCT’s Commitment

WCT is committed to the following:
i. Aligning its practices with national and global commitments, such as Malaysia’s National Policy on Biological Diversity, to address biodiversity loss.

ii. Identifying potential significant impacts on local and global biodiversity during the design and planning of its activities, products and services, including those arising from its supply chain. This includes assessing biodiversity at prospective and existing sites, particularly those in or near key biodiversity areas, as identified by relevant authorities. Biodiversity can be addressed as part of the required environmental impact assessments by relevant environmental regulations or project risks assessments conducted by internal departments where applicable.

iii. Implementing the mitigation hierarchy across its operations as a guiding framework for managing biodiversity interactions, beginning with avoiding and minimising negative impacts, followed by restoring affected ecosystems, and ultimately offsetting any residual impacts.

iv. Integrating nature and ecosystems into its products and services wherever feasible. This includes incorporating natural lighting in developments, planting native species in landscaping, and enhancing green spaces to support urban biodiversity.

v. Engaging with stakeholders to promote biodiversity protection and its enhancement across all operations and within the communities where WCT operates.

The Board of Directors of WCT is responsible for establishing this Biodiversity Policy. This Policy is supported by WCT’s environmental and other sustainability-related policies. Performance related to biodiversity will be monitored and reported as part of the Group’s sustainability governance framework.

This Policy shall be communicated across all business divisions, subsidiaries, business partners, employees, contractors, and other external providers of goods and services. It will also be made accessible to other stakeholders, including investors and parties potentially affected by WCT’s biodiversity impacts.

This Policy will be reviewed periodically to ensure its relevance and effectiveness.
